Easy homestead recipes for whipped body butter, sunscreen, body scrub, and body wash.
Hello! It has been a minute since my last post. This time of year is so incredibly busy around the homestead. Spring offers that small window of opportunity for making progress, or getting back to the unfinished projects from fall. Trying to ignore my reluctant muscles and joints, I have been working hard in the greenhouse, the garden, the cabin, and preparing for the upcoming vendor season. I have accepted that this homestead will take quite a while to get where I hope, but every spring, I start to see some fruits of my labor.
Notwithstanding the occasional snowstorm and lots of rain, it is warming up and the trees are blooming once again.. With warm weather ahead, I wanted to share a few natural body care recipes I have been making for a while, use all the time, and have sold in the past.
Finding all-natural and healthier personal care products is fortunately much easier to find today. And of course, us small businesses are creating wonderful and therapeutic products. But if you have been wanting to make your personal care products, read on! After some initial investment, you will save money in the long run and you can customize your body care. Using these basic recipes, you can experiment with different essential oils and add other natural ingredients to benefit your particular needs. I recommend doing a patch test before using any new skincare product, especially sunscreen.
I hope you try one or more of these natural body care recipes. I would love to hear what you think or if you want to share your body care recipe. Please drop me a note in the comments. Happy spring!

About the Product containers
You will need a way to store your body care products. You can find small jars online or even at dollar stores. Or you may already have a jar you love. For the body wash recipe, you will need a spray bottle in either glass or plastic (safer in the shower.) Four to six ounces is big enough. It is best to use up your body products within a couple of months so they stay fresh as they don’t contain preservatives. Prepare your container by sterilizing in hot water then dry thoroughly, including the lid. Even if it is a new jar, it removes any factory residue.
About the Oils
These recipes use sweet almond oil as the primary oil. It is plant-based, grown in the US, and compliments essential oils nicely. All of the recipes below include almond oil, as well as a little coconut oil. Shea butter is another plant-based oil used as the hard fat in these recipes. It comes in an amazing solid block and you slice it like it’s a big hunk of cheese.
About Essential Oils

If you don’t already have a stash of essential oils, you can start with two or three or try a sample pack. Let your scent palette preferences guide you or look for the therapeutic properties you would like to experience.
