What is a fire box?
Only the most secure way to ensure that your most important things will survive a fire or flood. Important things like emergency cash, passport, birth certificate, and the likes.
I have a Sentry Safe Box that is fireproof and waterproof. It’s not huge, holding standard envelopes snd it has lasted so far 20+years. I keep it under my bed, mostly because the closet space is prime RE in a tiny cabin.
I searched fire box on Amazon and a ton of them came up so there are lots of options. A key is good, but I leave mine in the lock so I don’t lose it as theft is pretty low out here in the sticks.
During college, my apartment burned to the ground, or rather to the apartment below. My apartment was one of two in a wooden frame house built probably in the 1940s. The fire started with a faulty wire in the attic and spread onto my floor. I was on campus during that time. The fire department was able to save most of the ground apartment. The elderly couple I rented from were very sorry and I started over, one outfit at a time. I had to replace my passport of course. Fortunately at 20, I think my mother had all my other important documents.
All this to say, it can happen and climate change is only increasing the odds. So get some piece of mind and keep a fire box under your bed.
